Misnomers and Misconceptions

A band like the Killers calling themselves just that.

Saying “No offense” or “With all due respect” guarantees you being a disingenuous liar.

If someone calls you “one in a million”, remind them that means there are 1300 of you in China.

10% off anything is a sham. If a million dollar house is 10% off, proportionately it’s virtually meaningless. Whatever object is 10% off should be used to bludgeon the salesperson with.

“As long as you’re honest, I won’t get upset.”

Porsche is pronounced “PORE-SHUH”. Give a great car that much respect by saying its name properly.

MTV does not mean “music television”.

To every Hollywood action movie ever made:

A motorcycle will always catch or outrun a car.

A dog will always catch a running human in about 3 seconds.

A car will always catch a running human in about 4 seconds.

ALWAYS.

  1. And I almost forgot, in the “Great Minds Blog Alike” category, I wrote this a while back:

“Anytime somebody starts a sentence with “in fairness,” or “to be fair,” he has either just said or is just about to say something decidedly unfair, and usually pretty sarcastic.

In fairness, I do it all the time. ”

And this from you is hilarious: “As long as you’re honest, I won’t get upset.” If you hear that out of a woman, and you are even remotely inclined to believe her, you should be shot on site.

The motorcycle thing has always pissed me off.
