Streets of Saigon in Three Sentences

The current climate in Saigon can be summed up in one word: busy, like bees with helmets and schedules, lotsa-traffic4whose motorbikes swarm and collectively buzz a deep hum at every stop light, rumbling like Hell’s Angels or a jet engine preparing to open up, they swim and overflow the streets like gasoline salmon through broken dams of throttles and exhaust.

The Lunar New Year will see the city swept with an eerie tranquility; I’m told that nearly half of the city’s 8 million people will return to the countryside to visit their families while the streets of Saigon will breathe a hushed moment of liberty from the gauntlet of clamor and fiercely concentrated 4-stroke fumes.

Thank god.
